Major Progress

Yesterday Collin made major progress. His fever broke & he was much more talkative. His diarrhea has slowed down a great deal. All of the blood cultures that was done have all come back negative. However, his stool sample came back that he has C-Dif. It is a stomach bug. They have started him on meds to treat it. He wanted to go to the playroom. He bugged the nurses and me all day. Finally the nurse said he could go as long as he wore an isolation gown and gloves. We wanted him to walk to the playroom, but when he realized he had to wear the gown and gloves he wanted to go in his wheelchair. He thought the playroom on this unit was like the one on the Cancer Unit. It is not. He was disappointed. There wasn't any toys for kids his age. We found a fun book so he took that back to his room. Collin ate dinner. Heath and the kids brougth some KFC chicken up for us. They also brought up some mac & cheese & mashed potatoes. For what ever reason, Collin would only eat the chicken and he cried over the mac & cheese. He wanted KFC mac & cheese and mashed potatoes & gravy. Kasey & I went to KFC to get what he wanted just so he would eat something. He ate most of his chicken leg & a little of the sides. He made major strides yesterday Today the doctors are taking him off of the iv antibiotics. His meds for the C-diff are oral. So far he had kept all of this oral meds down. Now they are putting him on oral pain meds. That is a major step. He will be unhooked from the iv pump later today. He will still be hooked up to the PCA pump that is for morphine as a back up. Hopefully he won't need it once the oral meds are started. After he gets his pain meds I am going to change the dressing on his central line. Then we are going to get out of bed and sit in the chair for a little while. I am going to try and get him to walk some, but don't know how that is going to go. So far today, he has not eaten anything. but his drinking Sprite. He is getting better. At this point we don't know when we get to go home at this point. Thank to to everybody for all of their thoughts, prayers & support.
