Day 0
Collin really did not improve from yesterday. However, a lot did happen today regardless. He did get his stem cell transplant. They had a nurse manually inject the stem cells in through his central line. It took about 15-20 minutes. He did great. It will take about 10 days for the new stem cells to start producing new bone marrow.
The doctors wanted to try and wake up Collin this morning. They took him off all meds except for fluids, Lacix & Fentenyl. They reduced the Fentenyl to a dosage that would allow him to wake up, but not feel any pain. He didn't wake up nor did he show any signs of trying to wake up. They then ordered an MRI of his brain to make sure the CT Scan and EEG didn't miss anything. They are trying to figure out why he won't wake up. They did increase the Fentenyl back up for the MRI & to keep him comfortable overnight.
He let the ventilatior do most of the breathing for him today. The vent is set at 16 breaths per minute. He didn't get much higher then that. Yesterday he was taking breaths on his own. He was at 24 to 29 breaths per minute with the vent set at 16.
The big issue is that he is in Acute Renial Failure. This means his kidneys are failing. Nobody panic. He is in the begining stages. This can be reversed at this stage. Overnight his belly swelled and is hard. His urine output has decreased. The good news is that he is still producing urine. They are giving him a double dose of Lacix tonight along with another type of medication that will help him to urinate. I will be able to more information from the doctors tomorrow.
He was able to come off the Dopmine today. That was the medication that was keeping his blood pressure up. He is able to keep it up on his own.
That is all I have for today. I will keep you posted as a get information.
